Until a few years ago, aluminium windows were associated with cold windows that did not provide sufficient protection against hypothermia. Nothing could be further from the truth. Today's aluminium windows, especially energy-saving aluminium windows, provide excellent thermal insulation and can be successfully used in energy-saving and even passive construction.
What are the characteristics of energy-saving aluminium windows?
In order for aluminium windows to be considered energy-saving, they must have a Uw between 0.85 and 1.0 W/m²K.
To achieve this, energy-saving aluminium windows are equipped with:
- thermal breaks, which separate the inner and outer part of the frame, minimising thermal conductivity.
- warm edge spacers and multi-chamber profiles, which effectively eliminate thermal bridges.
- triple glazing filled with noble gases and multi-layer gaskets, which effectively reduce heat loss.
- narrow aluminium frames, which allow for larger glazing. This, in turn, improves the building's energy balance thanks to better lighting and the use of solar energy.
So which energy-saving aluminium windows is the best choice?
Aikon Distribution offers three aluminium profiles that fulfil the definition of energy-saving windows and are suitable for passive houses.
Aliplast Genesis 75 windows
This window and door system has set a new standard in insulation while maintaining the highest level of user ergonomics. The heat transfer coefficient for the Genesis model can be as low as Uw = 0.76 W/m2*K.

Aliplast Star windows
Depending on the glazing used, the heat transfer coefficient for the Star profile can be Uw = 0.8 W/m²K. The profile also has high sound insulation.

Aliplast Superial windows
The use of three-chamber thermal breaks made of polyamide enriched with glass fibre increases the strength and thermal insulation of the Superial profile. The heat transfer coefficient for this model can be as low as Uw = 0.9 W/m2*K.
